Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has announced dates for Broadway Barks and the Broadway Flea Market.
The 12th Annual Broadway Barks will take place July 10 from 3:30 to 6:30pm in Shubert Alley. The adopt-a-thon created and hosted by best friends Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore helps find homes for pets from the city's animal shelters. Originally conceived as a program to promote the adoption of shelter animals Broadway Barks has evolved into an event that has not only focused on the plight of homeless animals but has opened the door of communication and fostered a spirit of community among the numerous shelters and rescue groups working throughout the city.
The 24th Annual Broadway Flea Market and Grand Auction will take place September 26 beginning at 10am and finishing at 7pm. The event will take place out doors on 44th Street, unless in the case of rain. Last year's Flea Market took place in the Roseland Ballroom due to nasty weather conditions. This event features theatrical memorabilia donated by the theatre community. The event also hosts a 'Celebrity Table' at which fans can purchase autographs by or photos with some of their favorite Broadway stars. The Grand Auction features big ticket items such as walk-on roles in Broadway shows and very rare theatre memorabilia, auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Last year's Flea Market and Grand Auction raised $403,229 for Broadway Cares. Since its debut in 1987, when it raised $12,000, the 23 editions of The Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction have raised a grand total of $8,161,752 for BC/EFA.
