Doors 6pm, Show 8pm
$25 adv, $30 door
Founder of Rock group Dire Straits, David has subsequently faithfully pursued his own musical vision, writing and producing his own compositions on ten solo CDs to date. Knopfler has been fortunate enough to reach a wide audience without compromising his art and while he's enjoyed the respect and admiration of his musical peers, widespread critical acclaim, international awards and worldwide chart successes, has managed, in his own country, Britain, to keep a profile so low as to be nearly invisible. He lives quietly in the English countryside, notching up an impressive list of writing credits. A regular panelist at music conventions and lifelong member of organizations like Amnesty International and Adopt a Minefield, David has always made uncompromising life choices: "I don't regard what I do as remotely glamorous. I write, record and perform my music because I completely love doing it and despite any so called celebrity status that sometimes comes with the job."

The Stones had already established their reputation as one of rock's greatest bands and had just issued one of their best LPs, Beggar's Banquet (1968). But Taylor quickly added his imprint on the Stones' style and was present for the legendary concert tours, during their 1969-1974 heyday. He played on some of Let It Bleed (1969) and all of the live disc Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out (1970).

General Admission Seated- First Come, First Seated
Doors 6pm, Show 8pm
$32 adv, $37 show
VIP Booth for 4: $200 // VIP Booth for 6: $300
Ottmar Liebert harnesses the emotional fire and mournful tonalities of traditional Flamenco music, updates it with the subtle rhythms of Jazz and makes it widely accessible with the melodic song structures of Pop. The acoustic guitarist summed it up with the apt comment that Nouveau Flamenco is to the traditional variety what Bossa Nova is to Samba. But even the cleverest formulas are worthless without the animating spark of genius, a quality for which there is no formula, only serendipity.

EPMD - Hip Hop Legends
File Under: Hip Hop
Standing Room Only
Doors 11pm, Show 11:30pm
$18 adv, $22 show
On the surface, the sample-reliant productions and monotone rapping styles of Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith had little to recommend them, but the duo's recordings as EPMD were among the best in hip-hop's underground during the late '80s and early '90s. Over the course of four albums (from the 1988 classic Strictly Business to 1992's Business Never Personal), the group rarely varied from two themes: dissing sucker MCs and recounting sexual exploits. A closer look, however, revealed that the duo's rhymes were nothing less than incredible, simply undervalued due to their lack of intonation during delivery. EPMD also had a feel for a good groove, and created numerous hip-hop classics, including "It's My Thing," "You Gots to Chill," "Get the Bozack," "Strictly Business," and "Rampage."

The phenomenon known as Sublime, arguably the most energetic, original and uniquely eclectic band to emerge from any scene, anywhere, ended with the death of lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Brad Nowell in May of 1996. But encompassing the sense of place and purpose long associated with Sublime's music, Badfish, a Tribute to Sublime seem to be channeling the spirit of their predecessors with a fury not felt for some time. What separates Badfish from other tribute bands is that they have replicated Sublime's essence, developing a scene and dedicated following most commonly reserved for label-driven, mainstream acts.

Where do Blues and Rock legends go to get inspired? To Hubert Sumlin, who lacks their fame but has their love and admiration. That continues today - The Rolling Stones invited Hubert to sit in with them at one of their Madison Square Garden shows in January '03.
Hubert Sumlin is an electric guitar pioneer, largely responsible for the sound of many modern guitar players. Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, Bob Weir, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana and many other critically acclaimed musicians consider Sumlin a major influence on their playing. Clapton proved his respect by refusing to do the Chess Records London Howlin' Wolf Sessions unless Hubert was present. "The Red Rooster", "Backdoor Man", "Shake For Me", "Killing Floor", "Smokestack Lightnin" and "Sittin' On Top of the World" are songs you may recognize from cover versions by Cream, The Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, or The Rolling Stones. Hubert Sumlin formulated the original music to these classics.

Infusing her deep and melodic songwriting style with splashes of powerful vocals, From the Sun is also Vonda's first studio release since 2003 and her fourth collaboration with legendary producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Elvis Costello, Randy Newman). From describes the album as "modern-day soul" with Vonda's solid piano playing and soulful, blues-inspired voice driving the tracks.

In early 1965 as the "British invasion" dominated the American music scene, two rockers from Long Island, Steve Boone and Joe Butler, teamed up with two folkies from Greenwich Village, John Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky, to form the Lovin' Spoonful and go on to record and perform some of the songs that would dominate the charts and establish them among the greats of the mid-sixties era.
Combining the best of folk music and rock and roll, with a touch of country thrown in, they gave us such hits as "Do You Believe in Magic," "Daydream," "You Didn't Have to be So Nice," "Nashville Cats" and the anthem for a hot July evening, "Summer in the City." All this in the span of 4 years and 5 albums. They toured almost constantly during this period and were one of the first rock bands to perform on college campuses almost as much as for teenage concert goers.

File Under: Classic Rock, Tribute
General Admission - First come, first seated
Doors 6pm, Show 8pm
$25 adv, $30 door

At a young age, SHEMEKIA COPELAND is already a force to be reckoned with in the blues. While still in her 20s, she's opened for the Rolling Stones, headlined at the Chicago Blues Festival and numerous festivals around the world, scored critics choice awards on both sides of the Atlantic (The New York Times and The Times of London) and shared the stage with such luminaries as Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Taj Mahal and John Mayer. Heir to the rich tradition of soul-drenched divas like Ruth Brown, Etta James and koko Taylor, Copeland's shot at the eventual title of Queen of the Blues is pretty clear. By some standards, she may already be there.
Legendary slide-guitarist SONNY LANDRETH has been working steadily for decades, amassing a devoted following among his fans and peers. Eric Clapton said he is "probably the most underestimated musician on the planet and also probably one of the most advanced." Indeed, as Landreth's way of playing is unmistakably his own - his method combines the bottleneck slide, palm and finger-picking techniques that produce a sound that is often said to resemble many instruments playing at once.

The Yardbirds are more than a Rock band...they are an institution...which, in the brief period from 1963 to 1968, made an indelible mark on the "Shapes of Things" to come.
To the casual music fan, The Yardbirds are best known as the band that honed the skills of future "guitar gods" Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page; and for their slew of chart hits, including "For Your Love," "Heart Full of Soul", "I'm A Man", and "Over Under Sideways Down". However, led by core members and songwriters Jim McCarty (drums), Chris Dreja (rhythm guitar/bass) and the late Keith Relf (vocals/harmonica), the band's experimental explorations also provided the crucial link between British R&B, Psychedelic Rock, and Heavy Metal, while pioneering the use of innovations like fuzz tone, feedback and distortion. Even their 1968 break-up set the stage for Rock ‘n' Roll's future...leading Jimmy Page to form the New Yardbirds, later re-christened Led Zeppelin.

In May 2009 the amazing Wonderous Stories and friends performed a stunning multi-media version of The Who's Rock Opera "Tommy" at BB's and in November 2009 they did a massive recreation of George Harrison's "Concert for Bangladesh". This year the 5 original members of Wonderous Stories plus a cast of friends and video will perform McCartney's "Ram" and "Band on the Run".
In 1971, Beatles fans were desperate for Beatles music of any kind and Paul did not disappoint with "Ram". Although it was not an actual Beatles album, songs like "Dear Boy" "Back Seat of My Car" and "Ram On" clearly had very sweet Beatle-like melodies. "Uncle Albert" and "Smile Away" showed Paul's whimsical side. By the time "Band on the Run" was released Wings had become a household name. The rest as they say is history but on this night at BB's these two important Macca albums will be played with careful detail. Paying attention to the heavily layered harmonies is essential to the ear-pleasing melodies. There will be fun moments of audience participation and singing. Come on down and get ready to hear classic albums done right and maybe you'll get a chance to warm up your own vocal chords!!!

King, Michael McDonald, Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, George Clinton, Prince, Liza Minnelli, Jimmy Vivino, Rod Stewart, Celia Cruz, Aretha Franklin, Tito Puente, The O'Jays, Donna Summers, Temptations, Four Tops, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Frank Sinatra, Lionel Hampton + Vocalist Angela Workman was a Raelette in Ray Charles' band.
Cary Hoffman is New York's premier Sinatra interpreter, garnering incredible critic response. 'My Sinatra' is not a Vegas-like impersonation, but rather a sincere artistic interpretation of the brilliant songs Frank Sinatra turned into American pop standards in his classic period from 1953 to the early '60s. Strung together with compelling stories about the songs, their composers, and Sinatra, this show is accompanied by a full orchestra masterfully playing transcriptions from the original Sinatra arrangers, Nelson Riddle and Billie May.
