George Clinton is the single most influential figure in the history of funk, the mastermind behind both Parliament & Funkadelic. He revolutionized R&B during the '70s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-'60s acid heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Stone. The Parliament/Funkadelic machine ruled black music during the '70s, capturing over 40 R&B hit singles (including three number ones) and recording three platinum albums.
In 1968, George formed Funkadelic in 1968, a visionary band that combined acid rock with primal funk. Funkadelic carried the torch for George's creative output until 1972 when, in a stroke of genius, George renamed the band Parliament and signed them to Casablanca Records, while Funkadelic signed with Warner Brothers in 1976.
Clinton now had two powerhouse bands signed to two different labels even though each band consisted of the same members. As George breaks it down, Parliament was more orchestrated with horns and complicated vocal arrangements while Funkadelic was more a straight up rock band with a heavy rhythm section.
With the growth of funk as a vibrant musical force, George was churning out landmark hits with both acts. Parliament was hitting with dance floor jams like Tear the Roof Off the Sucker (Give Up the Funk), Aqua Boogie, Flashlight, and Bop Gun. Meanwhile, Funakdelic was also hitting hard with anthemic funk jams like (Not Just) Knee Deep and One Nation Under A Groove.

As the Seventies came to a close, George Clinton soldiered on as a solo act and hit once again with the Number One Urban smash Atomic Dog. Times and music changed, but Clinton remained true to the funk and recorded a number of acclaimed albums for Prince's Paisley Park imprint as well as Epic Records in the 1980's and 90's. And George and his touring band, the P-Funk All Stars, graced the stage at the Woodstock festival as well as on a popular Nike ad during the 2002 NBA playoffs, and a show stopping live performance with OutKast at the 2004 Grammy Awards.

Over the past 16 years, as Peter White has kept thousands of smooth jazz fans worldwide enthralled by his spirited melodies, soulful grooves and inviting, instantly recognizable acoustic guitar tone, he's always had a blast finding unique ways to bring his modern sensibilities to cherished pop classics. Thanks to the smooth jazz format's affinity these days for instrumental cover songs, two of the incredible 13 #1 Radio & Records airplay hits he's enjoyed over the years, "The Closer I Get To You" and "Walk On By" (from 1994's Reflections), have become enduring staples of the format.

But pop music fans were listening to White's classic acoustic guitar style even before the advent of the New Adult Contemporary and Smooth Jazz formats, most notably via his collaborations with British folk/pop singer Al Stewart. The Stewart-White partnership, which culminated with the dual live recording Rhymes in Rooms in the mid-90s, spanned over 20 years. White played on Stewart's landmark Year of the Cat album, co-wrote and performed on two of Stewart's biggest hits, "Time Passages" and "Midnight Rocks," and served as the Scottish singer's bandleader while playing guitar, Hammond Organ and piano. He later co-produced Stewart's Famous Last Words album.

White's other major longtime association was with Basia, an early vocal star in the genre that later became known as smooth jazz. In 1984, brother Danny White and a then unknown Basia formed the band Matt Bianco; Peter performed on the group's album Who's Side Are You On as well as on the hit single "Half a Minute." When Basia and Danny left Matt Bianco to focus on her solo career, Peter White's guitar and accordian became an integral flavor in her popular sound. He played on her three bestselling albums Time and Tide, London Warsaw New York and The Sweetest Illusion, and appeared on her live performance release Basia on Broadway. Basia sang on "Just Another Day," which became a popular airplay hit from Caravan of Dreams.

From their first LP in 1973, to their powerful stage presence today, the Marshall Tucker Band has played countless concert venues around the world.

Years of rigorous tour schedules earned the band the respect of critics and countless dedicated fans. With hit singles like "Heard It In a Love Song," "Fire On The Mountain," "Can't You See," and "Take The Highway," The Marshall Tucker Band earned seven gold and three platinum albums while they were on the Capricorn Records label. During the 90's, the MTB scored four hit singles on Billboard's country chart and one on Billboard's gospel chart. Their music has also been featured on the soundtracks of movies such as Smokey and the Bandit, The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper, and Shipwrecked.

The Marshall Tucker Band got its start in Spartanburg, S.C. when Gray teamed up with Tommy Caldwell and Toy Caldwell, Paul T. Riddle, George McCorkle and Jerry Eubanks, borrowing the name "Marshall Tucker" from a piano tuner who's name was found on a key ring in their old rehearsal space. In 1972, they signed with Capricorn Records, the same label that guided The Allman Brothers Band, Wet Willie, and others to national fame. The MTB opened shows for The Allman Brothers in 1973, and the following year, they began to headline their own shows across America due to the platinum-plus sales of their debut album.

In years to come, The Marshall Tucker Band would wow critics and influence major country acts like Alabama, The Kentucky Headhunters, Confederate Railroad, and Travis Tritt with its definitive blend of rock, rhythm & blues, jazz, country, and gospel. Now, thanks to the expanding scope of today's music, a new generation of fans is learning what the rest of their fans have known for so long- that good music knows no boundaries.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Ronnie Spector returns to BB Kings for the 10th consecutive year with her Xmas party which has become a New York holiday tradition. The beehive bad girl combines her Christmas classics, cult classics and her own timeless hits such as "Be My Baby", "Baby I Love You" and "Walking in The Rain" along with her off the cuff patter and holiday cheer to create "the ultimate sonic stocking stuffer." - New York Daily News

Ronnie's catalog of holiday hits include the definitive rock & roll versions of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", "Sleigh Ride" and "Frosty The Snowman"; the last 2 recordings being the top 15 most played holiday songs on the radio for the past 5 years according to Ascap.

Rolling Stone calls her "the original bad girl of rock," but this year Ronnie Spector has been very nice. The iconic singer who has influenced generations of musicians from the Beatles and BrIan Wilson, to Patti Smith and the Ramones, through to Amy Winehouse and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, - and recorded some of the most indelible holiday music of all time along the way - is set to release a new collection 'Ronnie Spector's Best Christmas Ever,' on November 9, via Bad Girl Sounds/The Orchard.

'Best Christmas Ever' features five rare holiday gems destined to become contemporary classics. Ronnie recorded four tracks under the guidance of Bobby Eli - the famed Philadelphia producer, songwriter and founding member of MFSB - and the fifth song with producer Johnny Gale (Ryan Shaw/Robert Randolph), with contributions from her long-time touring musicians, bassist Jeremy Chatzky (Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Sessions Band, Steve Earle) and keyboardist Joe McGinty (Psychedelic Furs, Ryan Adams), among others.

'Best Christmas Ever' is imbued with Ronnie's deeply felt and vividly recounted holiday memories from her childhood in New York City. "These songs recapture the original feelings of Christmas I had growing up," Spector says. "The minute I got into that studio I knew these were going to be my new Christmas hits."

And she should know. Spector's group The Ronnettes released the definitive versions of "Frosty the Snowman," "Sleigh Ride," and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" in 1963, and they've dominated the holiday airwaves ever since ("Sleigh Ride" and "Frosty" are among ASCAP's Top 20 most played Christmas songs of the past five years). As the New York Times has observed "It's hard to think of a more appealing angel to welcome the season than Ms. Spector."
