Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers (SSDC) announces that Karen Azenberg was elected President of SSDC and Larry Carpenter as Executive Vice President on November 19, 2007. The announcement was made to the SSDC Membership at the Annual Membership Meeting in New York City on Monday, November 19, 2007.

Azenberg replaces Pamela Berlin, who served as President for six years and as a SSDC board member for 19 years. Carpenter assumes the office vacated by Azenberg. The SSDC Board is comprised of 30 nationally recognized directors and choreographers who are elected by the membership of SSDC.

Azenberg joined the SSDC Board in November 1998 and was elected Executive Vice President in November 2001.  In 2002, she won the SSDC Extraordinary Service Award.  Carpenter served on the Board from November 1998 through November 2002, and re-joined the Board in November 2006.

Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers (SSDC) is an independent labor union for stage directors and choreographers. Member representatives of the organization collectively bargain contracts with producer organizations, thus creating the national standards for professional stage direction and choreography. The organization has an office in New York City that services approximately 1700 members and 300 associates in the US and abroad. www.ssdc.org
