A fascinating and utterly fantastic new mash-up video!
Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's seminal 1976 musical PACIFIC OVERTURES is celebrated in an awe-inspiring new music video featuring 12 minutes of Sondheim's score set against riveting footage depicting an illustrious and inventive visual re-telling of the central story of the musical which depicts the Westernization of Japan by Commodore Perry.
Of note, the video was created by Ed Cachianes with Final Cut Pro and is officially described as "A condensed interpretation of the masterful Sondheim/Weidman musical theater piece."
Famed theatre historian and critic Frank Rich commented on the video earlier today, posting it to Facebook and sharing, "Is it possible to capture the very essence of Sondheim and Weidman's "Pacific Overtures" in a 12-minute film? Yes, if it's as brilliant as this mashup by Ed Cachianes. A must-see for any Sondheim fan for sure (and not previously seen)."
