The smash-hit comedy Gay Camp is back after a 4-year hiatus, playing a limited run at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre, on Friday, March 23, March 30, and April 6 at 9:30pm.
"You would think that by 2018 a play about a gay reform camp would be irrelevant, but think again," said co-author Philip Mutz, who has updated the script with jokes about today's political and social climate.
"We are coming for Trump and Pence head-on - with comedy, of course," Mutz said. "With this administration, the jokes write themselves."
The 80-minute comedic play is a 4-actor, 12-character tour de force, as gay campers battle the forces of evil at a gay reform camp. Gay Camp performs at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre, 61 Christopher Street (at 7th Avenue) on Friday, March 23, March 30, and April 6 at 9:30pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and are available at www.gaycamptheplay.com.
Written in 2010, Gay Camp was winner of Best Ensemble in NYC's 2012 Fringe Festival and played an extended run at The Duplex, before touring to Spokane, Provincetown, Providence, and Fire Island. A musical based on the play is set to debut in 2019.
