Of his 2014 New York debut at Weill Hall, the New York Concert Review described him as "an extremely sensitive musician and mature interpreter," and "mature beyond his years." Mr. Weng is a laureate of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Concerto Competition, the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition for Young Musicians, The New York International Piano Competition, and the Kosciuzsko Foundation Chopin Competition.

Mr. Weng has been featured in concert in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, China, Japan, Brazil, and Venezuela, and has performed in many of the world's renowned concert halls, including Boston's Symphony Hall, New England

An avid chamber musician and collaborator, Mr. Weng has participated in the Ravinia Steans Institute and the Verbier Academy, and regularly collaborates with colleagues from around the world. He recently appeared with cellist James Kim at his Weill Hall debut, having a special affinity for the cello.

In 2009, Mr. Weng graduated from the highly selective joint degree program between Columbia University and The Juilliard School with a BA in Economics and an MM in Piano Performance. He continued his studies with
Boris Berman at the Yale School of Music, where he has completed the residential portion of their doctoral degree program and was awarded a Master of Musical Arts degree in May 2014.

Melvin Stecher and Norman Horowitz, Executive Directors of the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation, have devoted a lifetime to the musical education of young people. Internationally recognized as one of the most distinguished duo-piano teams of their generation, Stecher and Horowitz are equally renowned for their multi-faceted activities as performers, teachers, composers, and educational consultants - activities that have earned them a unique position in the world of music. Having been co-directors of the Stecher and Horowitz School of the Arts for 39 years, (1960-1999) it was apparent to both principals that the most important years for developing interested young musicians were the pre-teen years and into the early twenties, a good decade of concentrated and formative development. The New York Piano Competition was originally founded on this premise.
