For the fourth consecutive year, Avenue Q has set a box office record at the John Golden Theatre (252 West 45th St.) on Broadway. The Tony Award-winning Best Musical broke its own box office record -- yet again -- with an all-time high of $665,181 for the week ending December 31, 2006.
In September, 2006, with its 1,296th performance, the Tony Award-winning musical broke a 62-year-old record to become the longest running show at the Golden Theatre -- a record previously held by the thriller Angel Street which opened in 1941 and closed in 1944.
Avenue Q also broke the box office records for January 2, 2004 ($553,007) and for the weekend ending January 4, 2003 ($493,128).
The hit musical about trying to make it in New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account, Avenue Q is now in its fourth year at the Golden Theatre where it continues to play to sold-out houses 8 times a week.
The show features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon, and directed by Jason Moore, Avenue Q is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, Vineyard Theatre and The New Group.
The current Broadway cast of Avenue Q features Jennifer Barnhart, Mary Faber, Evan Harrington, Robert McClure, Ann Sanders, Howie Michael Smith and Haneefah Wood.
