August: Osage County Headed For Big Screen?

 According to recent rumors, August: Osage County by Tracy Letts, currently running on Broadway is in talks to be made into a feature film. According to Jeffrey Wells of Hollywood Elsewhere, "I've been told that producer Jean Doumanian is partnering with the Weinstein Co"

The recent recipient of multiple Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League award nominations, including Best Play, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Featured Actor, and Best Featured Actress, August: Osage County tells the explosively funny tale of the Weston clan, triggered by the recent disappearance of the family patriarch.

Directed by Anna D. Shapiro, August: Osage County has been called "The most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years," (Charles Isherwood, The New York Times), and was voted #1 play of the year by Time, The Associated Press, Entertainment Weekly, and TimeOut New York.

The cast of the current Broadway production is Ian Barford, Deanna Dunagan, Kimberly Guerrero, Francis Guinan, Brian Kerwin, Michael McGuire, Mariann Mayberry, Amy Morton, Sally Murphy, Jeff Perry, Molly Ranson, Rondi Reed, and Troy West.

The Weinstein Company is an independent American film studio founded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein in 2005 after the pair left the Disney-owned Miramax Films, which they had co-founded in 1979. The Dimension Films label of Miramax followed the brothers to their new company. They have produced films such as Miss Potter, Derailed, and the recent hit Transamerica.
