Audi of America announced today it is the Official Automotive Partner of the Whitney Museum of American Art for the opening year of the museum's new building. The new Whitney opens on May 1, 2015 in New York's popular Meatpacking District.

Partnering with this New York cultural institution continues the Audi brand's ongoing tradition of championing and supporting the arts and creating partnerships with likeminded organizations that stand for authenticity and a progressive mindset.

"Audi is proud to support the mission of the Whitney Museum of American Art, one of the most preeminent, contemporary art museums of the world," said Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America. "This incredible new building, designed by Renzo Piano, will be a global center for art, culture and innovation."

Throughout 2015 and 2016, Audi will partner on a variety of events and collaborations with the Whitney, providing chauffeured car service for select events including the celebratory week of events leading up to the museum's opening. Audi and the Whitney will also collaborate on an Audi Lounge featured within the museum during select events exclusively for Whitney members.

With striking views of the Hudson River and situated at the southern entrance to the popular elevated High Line park in one of New York's most vibrant neighborhoods, the new building is designed to engage a lively and diverse international, national and local audience. With nearly 50,000 square feet of indoor exhibition space, including the largest column-free museum gallery in New York City, and approximately 13,000 square feet of outdoor galleries, situated on multiple levels of the building's terraces, the new building affirms the Whitney's role as the leading museum of modern and contemporary art of the United States.

"The Whitney is thrilled to partner with Audi in our first year in our new building downtown," said Adam D. Weinberg, Alice Pratt Brown Director of the Whitney. "We are grateful for their support and partnership at such an important moment for the Museum."

ABOUT THE WHITNEY
The Whitney Museum of American Art, founded in 1930 by the artist and philanthropist Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875−1942), houses the foremost collection of American art from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Mrs. Whitney, an early and ardent supporter of modern American art, nurtured groundbreaking artists at a time when audiences were still largely preoccupied with the Old Masters. From her vision arose the Whitney Museum of American Art, which has been championing the best art of the United States for more than eighty years. The core of the Whitney's mission is to collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit American art of our time and serve a wide variety of audiences in celebration of the complexity and diversity of art and culture in the United States. Through this mission and a steadfast commitment to artists themselves, the Whitney has long been a powerful force in support of modern and contemporary art and continues to help define what is innovative and influential in American art today.
