WABC news anchor Joe Torres will welcome Atlantic Theater Company artistic director Neil Pepe and managing director Andrew Hamingson to "Viewpoint" this weekend to discuss the award-winning theater company's landmark year, which witnessed the creation of its second stage Atlantic Stage 2, the world premiere of the new musical 10 Million Miles, the Broadway transfers of the hit shows Spring Awakening and The Lieutenant of Inishmore and the move of its administrative offices and acting school to 111 8th Avenue.
WABC's weekly show "Viewpoint" will air on Sunday, May 27th at 5:30a in the tri-state area (Channel 7 in New York on Time Warner cable).
Atlantic's world premiere musical 10 Million Miles, featuring music and lyrics by Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Patty Griffin (Impossible Dream), a book by Keith Bunin (The Credeaux Canvas) and direction by Tony Award-nominee Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) is now in previews for an official opening on Thursday, June 14th, 2007. The limited engagement has been extended through Sunday, July 15th, 2007.
In honor of Atlantic board member Linda Gross and husband Daniel Gross's contribution to Atlantic, the main stage theater on 20th Street has been renamed Atlantic Theater Company at The Linda Gross Theater. The renaming marked the kick-off for a capital campaign to renovate the front and back of house of the 165 seat Off-Broadway theater that is housed in a century old converted gothic revival church.
Last season, Atlantic entered its third decade with a milestone move of the Atlantic Acting School and administrative offices to the Port Authority Building at 111 Eighth Avenue, following a $4 Million renovation. The new headquarters, encompassing 25,000 square feet, houses a ninety-nine seat state-of-the-art black box theater, lobby with gallery, nine rehearsal and classroom studios, a scenic shop, box office, dressing rooms, student/faculty lounges and administrative and artistic staff offices.
10 Million Miles plays Tuesday through Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm & 8pm and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. All tickets are $65.00 and available by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200.
