Atlantic Theater Company's 2007 annual Spring gala will salute Atlantic ensemble member and Academy Award-winning actress Mary Steenburgen and Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winner Ted Danson with a playful tribute on Monday, April 30th, 2007 at the legendary Rainbow Room (30 Rockefeller Plaza, 65th floor). The Honorable William Jefferson Clinton and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will serve as honorary co-chairs.
Academy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Mary Steenburgen is a member of Atlantic Theater Company whose numerous theatre credits include The Beginning of August at Atlantic, Candida on Broadway, Marvin's Room, Holiday, The Exonerated and most recently, Boston Marriage, written and directed by Atlantic co-founder and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Mamet. Steenburgen was awarded an Oscar and Golden Globe Award for the feature film Melvin and Howard and is known to television audiences for her role in the hit CBS series "Joan of Arcadia."
Three time Golden Globe and two time Emmy Award-winning actor Ted Danson is best known for his role as "Sam Malone" in the iconic television series "Cheers," his Golden Globe Award-nominated turn in the CBS series "Becker" and for his feature film roles in The Onion Field, Body Heat, Three Men and a Baby and Saving Private Ryan. The husband and wife team are dedicated fundraisers and were presented with Liberty Hill Foundation's prestigious Upton Sinclair Award in 1996 for their work in human rights and environmental causes.
"This year's Atlantic gala promises to deliver alively toast to these two prolific artists and celebrate the accomplished history of the award winning Off-Broadway theater company. The Gala will begin on Monday, April 30th at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and music; and dinner at 7:30 p.m. followed by a star studded tribute at 9:00 p.m," state press notes.
Atlantic's recent successes include the Broadway transfer of the hit musical Spring Awakening, the smash hit New York premiere production of David Mamet's adaptation of Harley Granville Barker's The Voysey Inheritance, now in its third unprecedented extension through Sunday, March 25th - and this season's New York premiere of Tina Howe's play Birth And After Birth.
This year's gala proceeds will benefit Atlantic's new play development programs and Atlantic's growing Arts Education and Outreach programs, "Atlantic For Kids" children's productions and Atlantic's in-classroom "Students and Educators" series, serving more than 3,000 New York City public school students annually.
