Following the success of their acclaimed production of Ragtime this winter, ASTORIA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER is pleased to announce the production of Lillian Hellman?s THE CHILDREN?S HOUR, directed by Jessi D. Hill, 75 years after its premiere on Broadway.. THE CHILDREN?S HOUR will play a 3-week limited engagement at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (30-44 Crescent St, Astoria, NY 11102. Entrance on 30th Road.) Performances begin Thursday, May 21st and continue through Sunday, June 7th.

Press are cordially invited to attend Thursday, May 21st, Friday, May 22nd and Saturday, May 23rd. (Unofficial press dates will be accommodated, upon request.)

The insidious power of a lie takes center stage at the Wright-Dobie School for Girls in Lillian Hellman?s The Children?s Hour. When a student perceives she is being treated unfairly by the headmasters, she fabricates a malicious lie about them. Fearful that their children will be inappropriately influenced, parents begin to withdraw their children from the school. The controversy pushes relationships to the brink, tests assumptions, and challenges preconceived notions of the truth.

The production features set design by Caleb Levengood, costume design by Emily Morgan DeAngelis, and lighting design by Gina Scherr. David A. Thomas and Greg H. Hennigan are the co-sound designers, Tiffany Rachelle Stewart is the choreographer and Bonnie Hilton is the stage manager.

THE CHILDREN?S HOUR plays the following regular schedule through Sunday, June 7th:
