THE ARTISTS SHOWCASE SERIES is pleased to present a reading of PIECE, a new musical with music and lyrics by Scott Alan and book by TARA SMITH, and directed by Broadway actress Schele Williams (Rent, Aida). The reading will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17 at Makor, 35 West 67th Street, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. Tickets are $15 and can be ordered online under "Theatre" at www.makor.org or by calling (212) 601-1000. The Artists Showcase Series portion of proceeds from this event will be donated to GILDA'S CLUB NEW YORK CITY (www.gildasclubnyc.org), a place where people touched by any type of cancer can come to learn how to live with this change in their lives.

PIECE tells the story of one woman's journey of self-discovery. Played by four actresses, the 44-year-old central character, Katherine, recalls her life through the eyes of her 17-, 26- and 35-year-old selves. In order to find herself, she must relive the pivotal moments of her past. Demo recordings of several songs from the musical are available under "Music" at www.scottalan.net.

Scott Alan (Music & Lyrics/Arrangements) wrote the book, music and lyrics for the musical Detour which ran for an extended, sold out, 10-week run at the Complex Theater in Los Angeles in 2002, and his music has been sung by many of Broadway's elite, including Stephanie J. Block, Alison Fraser, Liz Callaway, Billy Porter, Shoshana Bean, Kerry Butler and Julia Murney. Before his love for theatre brought him back to New York in 2003, Mr. Alan spent several years as an Assistant Musical Director in Los Angeles, working alongside Ricky Minor and Diane Louie and with stars such as Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross.

Featured in the cast are Lisa Brescia (Aida, Jesus Christ Superstar), BETH THOMPSON (Fiddler on the Roof, Bare), Courtney Balan and Kate Wetherhead.

KIMBERLY GRIGSBY (Caroline, or Change; The Full Monty; You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown) is the Musical Director and Supervisor and Jesse Vargas the Associate Musical Director.

THE ARTISTS SHOWCASE SERIES was created by producer Geoffrey Soffer to present readings of plays and musicals, as well as concerts featuring stars of Broadway, cabaret, TV and film. Proceeds from all events are donated to a charity chosen by the artists involved. Past participating artists include Tony winner Jeff Whitty (book of Avenue Q), Tony and Emmy winner Debra Monk (Redwood Curtain, Picnic, Steel Pier), Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Julie Gold (Bette Midler's "From a Distance"), Matthew Morrison (Hairspray, ABC-TV's "Once Upon A Mattress"), Gavin Creel (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Anita Gillette ("Boys On The Side," "Moonstruck," Cabaret), Eden Espinosa (Wicked, Brooklyn), Stephanie J. Block (The Boy From Oz), and many others. For more information, please visit www.showcaseseries.org.
