'Art of the Samurai' & 'Eccentric Visions: The Worlds of Luo Ping' Exhibitions Set to Close January 10 at the Met

The 'Art of the Samurai: Japanese Arms and Armor, 1156-1868' and the 'Eccentric Visions: The Worlds of Luo Ping (1733-1799)' exhibitions are set to close at Metropolitan Museum on Sunday, January 10.

Bringing together 214 masterpieces, this ambitious major loan exhibition features the finest examples of armor, swords, sword fittings and mountings, archery and equestrian equipment, banners, surcoats, and related accessories of rank, as well as painted screens and scrolls depicting samurai warriors. It includes 34 National Treasures, a number of which have never traveled outside Japan.

Eccentric Visions: The Worlds of Luo Ping (1733-1799)
Luo Ping is one of the most celebrated painters in 18th-century China. Featuring some 60 works, this is the first comprehensive exhibition of his paintings ever presented in America. The youngest of the so-called "Eight Eccentrics," a group of highly individualistic artists active in the prosperous metropolis of Yanzhou, he was an extraordinary artist, whose works influenced the course of later Chinese painting.
