Although it has been 35 years since Bridge Over Troubled Water was recorded, Art Garfunkel's image and signature vocal remain among the most instantly recognizable in popular music. Experience this unique vocal talent for yourself when An Evening with Art Garfunkel comes to the St. George Theatre in Staten Island on Saturday, March 21st.

Art Garfunkel began singing at the age of four and met his future singing partner, Paul Simon, in the sixth grade. In the late 1950s, the two teamed up to perform together under the alias Tom & Jerry releasing the single Hey, Schoolgirl. Garfunkel went on to attend Columbia University in the early 60s earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees, but he never stopped singing. In 1963 he and Simon re-teamed using their surnames and in 1964 Simon and Garfunkel released their first album, Wednesday Morning 3 A.M. The next year a folk-rock single from the album, The Sound of Silence, went to #1 on the charts and Simon and Garfunkel went on to become one of the most popular acts of the 1960s, winning five Grammy awards. They split six years later following the release of their most critically acclaimed album, Bridge Over Troubled Water, which topped the chart for ten weeks and sold 13 million copies worldwide.

In 1973, Garfunkel began to focus on a solo career releasing the first of his twelve albums. During this time, he established his style--a light, carefully arranged and constructed melodic soft rock that tended towards adult-oriented pop. To date Garfunkel's solo career has resulted in several charting singles, among them, I Only Have Eyes For You, Bright Eyes, All I Know and (What A) Wonderful World.

This Queens, New York, native, as part of Simon and Garfunkel, created harmonies that remain one of the cherished sounds of the 1960s and expanded the borders of folk and pop. Because of these accomplishments, Simon and Garfunkel were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. In 2003, Garfunkel re-teamed with Simon for a successful world tour and recently, the duo again made headlines, hinting they may team up for another world tour during 2009.
