The series is based on the best-selling book series by Patricia Cornwell.
Scarpetta, the crime book series by author Patricia Cornwell, will be coming to the screen. According to Deadline, Prime Video has greenlit two seasons of the series, which is set to star Broadway performers Ariana DeBose and Bobby Cannavale alongside Simon Baker, Rose McEwen, and Jake Cannavale.
The series centers on the titular character of Kay Scarpetta, (played by Nicole Kidman, who also produces) a medical examiner dealing with complicated and difficult relationships with her colleagues and family members. Kay's sister Dorothy is played by Jamie Lee Curtis, with DeBose playing her daughter Lucy Farinelli-Watson. Bobby Cannavale will play Pete Marino, a former detective.
The first two episodes will be directed by David Gordon Green, with Liz Sarnoff serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Read more at Deadline.
Ariana DeBose is an award-winning actress known for her varying roles onstage and in film and television. She received an Academy Award for her groundbreaking performance in Steven Spielberg's reimagining of West Side Story.
Bobby Cannavale was recently seen in the Off-Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's Here We Are at The Shed. Other stage credits include The Hairy Ape, The Big Knife, and Trust. He has been nominated for two Tony Awards.
