Pleasant High School). See below for details on all of the bands!
The Tall Pines - 5 PM

The Tall Pines are a shack-shakin', foot-stompin' folk-rock band featuring Connie Lynn Petruk, singing her heart out, playing drums on her alligator skin suitcase, and shaking her tambourine. Her partner Christmas Davis, plays guitar, writes the songs and howls along. The Tall Pines originate from the spirits of the late 1960s and early 1970s Country-Soul, and Swamp-Rock scenes, while working hard to take the sounds they love beyond history and into the next wave of North American Music. Their first self-titled album was voted one of the top ten best records of the year by NPR's Meredith Ochs. They've performed live with Country music great Charlie Louvin (RIP) at the CMJ music festival, with Norah Jones and Puss N Boots, Justin Townes Earl, Kevn Kinny of Drivn' and Cryin', Amy Ray of The Indigo Girls, and many more great folks. They produce a monthly live music series in New York City called The Tall Pines Revue. The Tall Pines were dubbed a buzz band by American Songwriter Magazine for their performances at the 30A Songwriter's Festival, and they have received critical praise from many blogs and magazines. Their most recent EP is "Fear Is The Devil." You can stream it HERE. A new LP is currently being recorded with Grammy nominated Producer Joel Hamilton at Studio G, Brooklyn. The Tall Pines are on a mission to remind a world increasingly made of concrete, glass and steel that some music still burns like raw timber.

Sarah Koon, 4:00 pm

Sarah Koon is a pianist and singer-songwriter from Newark, DE. Current mem- bers of her band include Melissa Forsythe on bass, Myke Glessner on drums and Brian Bard on guitar. Both Sarah and Brian have classical music backgrounds and interweave harmonies and melodies using classical style techniques. Melissa and Myke have eclectic musical backgrounds and have been performing in bands in the area for several years. They work together on stage to support the drama and delicacies of these dynamic, linear and instrumentally focused songs. This band has been described as 'piano-based progressive rock, art rock, freak folk rock, or experimental pop'. Look for Sarah Koon's 2018 album release online or at the merch table.

Cure for Pain, 2:00 pm

Here's the story. Morphine, from the word 'Morpheus,' the Roman god of dreams, was an American alternative rock group formed by Mark Sandman and Dana Col- ley out of Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1989. They disbanded in 1999 after frontman Sandman suddenly died of a heart attack on stage in Rome, Italy.

Morphine combined blues and jazz elements with more traditional rock arrange- ments, giving the band a very unusual sound. Sandman's distinctive singing was described as a "deep, laid-back croon" and his songwriting featured a prominent Beat influence. When asked by reporters to describe their music, the band created the label "low rock". One critical appraisal suggests that "Morphine immediately established a minimalist, low-end sound that could have easily become a gimmick: a 'power trio' not built around the sound of an electric guitar. Instead, with sly intelligence, Morphine expanded its offbeat vocabulary on each album."

Stone Shakers, 1:00 pm

The Wilmington, Delaware based Stone Shakers plays unique versions of classic and new covers as well as originals. With Samantha's vocals and a jammin' band, the Shakers' show is always a fun time!

Samantha Desper Poole - Vocals, Kevin Walsh - Guitar, Mandolin Tony Cappella - Bass, Ritchie Rubini - Drums

Jake Rashkind and Scott Proud met at a party at Jake's house where instruments and musicians are always in the mix. Almost immediately, the two started playing out as Crazy Chester, featuring a mix of Americana and originals. Jake recommended the addition of Jenks Whittenburg, adding his steady bass and vocals. Jake and Jenks had formed the acoustic duo Hoss/Boggs at a time when they were teaching in adjoining classrooms, playing fiddle tunes and bluegrass standards with Jake on mandolin and Jenks on guitar.

Arden Fair, Music in the Shady Grove! - produced by Allan Kleban

Saturday, September 1st, 2018, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

This is the 13th year that, as part of the Concert Gild, I've produced music for the Arden Fair. The Arden Fair is the Arden Club's annual, major fundraising event along with the wonderful concerts the Concert Gild produces each season. The Fair is great fun with the Shady Grove concert stage showcasing mostly local bands of note. Music styles range from the Diamond State Concert Band's marches, show tunes, and big band music, to folkrock/bluegrass, to jazz, jazz fu- sion, to blues, to 'experimental progressive folk rock', and "...'shack-shakin', foot-stompin' fuzz-folk-soul- and-rock & roll". I try to provide some variety dur- ing Fair day; there is always something for everyone. Folks visit the Shady Grove to listen, but also to eat and drink, and to hang with friends and family throughout the day. The following is my line-up for this year's Arden Fair 2018 with descrip- tions, band personnel, and links to examples of their music. See you in the Shady Grove! -Allan Kleban.
