The folks at Applebee's join their neighbors on Staten Island eagerly awaiting the prediction of Staten Island Chuck, New York City's own Groundhog Ambassador Plenipotentiary, Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Staten Island Zoo. The ceremony begins at 7:30 a.m. If Chuck sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter, if he does not there will be an early spring.
Chuck's favorite foods are corn and sweet potatoes, but all who attend the Groundhog Day celebration at the Staten Island Zoo will receive a certificate redeemable at any of the 4 Applebee's on Staten Island for a free bowl of soup or a free dessert shooter.
What determines the award selection really depends on Chuck. If Chuck sees his shadow, which translates into 6 more weeks of winter, everyone in the crowd gets a certificate for a free bowl of soup (with purchase of an entrée). If Chuck doesn't see his shadow that means early spring, and in celebration everyone in the crowd gets a certificate for a free dessert shooter (with entrée purchase).
Guests at Applebee's also have a chance prior to February 2 to predict his prediction. By entering the "Will Chuck See His Shadow" Contest guests who guess correctly will be entered to win Dinner For Two once a month for a year. Lucky winners who select the correct answer will be chosen at random.
