Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces the Fall 2018 BAC Presents season of music and dance presentations, which runs September 19 through December 5 . Tickets for performances at BAC (450 W. 37th Street, New York, NY) are on sale now, and can be purchased at bacnyc.org and 866 811 4111. Also this fall, BAC Residencies will provide support for the development of new works in theater, dance, music, and multimedia by artists from Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and New York City.
BAC's Fall 2018 dance offerings include a new work from Lucy Guerin: the N.Y. Premiere of Split, a duet for two female dancers, one clothed and one naked, who negotiate ever-diminishing dimensions of space and time. "Ruminative, poignant and provocative," (The Australian) Split revels in the sharp, elegant choreographic investigations by one of Melbourne's leading dance-makers. This presentation marks Guerin's return to BAC, following the premiere of Corridor in 2009; her last New York season was in 2012.
On November 1-2 in the Jerome Robbins Theater, BAC and Lincoln Center's White Light Festival co-present the World Premiere of Framing Time. This interdisciplinary collaboration of music, movement, and light set to Morton Feldman's spare, mystical composition Triadic Memories is performed by "adventurous, intelligent pianist" (Threepenny Review) Pedja Muzijevic and choreographer/dancer Cesc Gelabert-"a cascade of pure dance invention" (The Guardian)-with set and lighting design by Burke Brown.
Fall 2018 music concerts include BAC Salon: Szymanowski, Berio + Debussy featuring the Tesla Quartet and Canadian soprano Alexandra Smither in her first New York appearance September 19 in the Howard Gilman Performance Space. In the Jerome Robbins Theater, on October 15 celebrated chamber group yMusic will play the N.Y. Premiere of a new album-length work by Bryce Dessner (commissioned through BAC's Cage Cunningham Fellowship), and on December 5, Quodlibet Ensemble will perform music spanning five centuries, including a U.S. Premiere by composer Yevgeniy Sharlat.

Split (N.Y. Premiere)
October 11-13 / Thursday - Saturday at 7:30PM
Jerome Robbins Theater
Tickets: $25
Running Time: 50 Minutes
A demanding dance work for two female performers, Split revels in Lucy Guerin's sharp, elegant choreographic investigations, reflecting the dilemmas of negotiating with oneself and others in a world of increased pressure and reduced resources. The work shifts between two bodies, reconciled and in conflict, and considers the female body as a site of commodification, exploitation, shame and shock. Featuring a musical score by UK composer Scanner, Split is a thought-provoking structural meditation rendered in movement and delivered by one of Australia's most expressive dance companies.

Framing Time (World Premiere)
November 1 + 2 / Thursday and Friday at 8PM
Jerome Robbins Theater
Tickets: $30 Orchestra / $25 Balcony
Running Time: 60 Minutes
Framing Time is a quietly thrilling meditation on music, light, and movement centered on Morton Feldman's 1981 solo piano piece Triadic Memories. Feldman's spare, mystical piano piece-a work the composer described as the "biggest butterfly in captivity"-merges with an intricate color and light interplay, joined by dance and sculptural elements. Vividly rendered by pianist Pedja Muzijevic, the shifting colors and elastic tempos of Feldman's painterly music are transformed into acute, poetic movement by Spanish choreographer and dancer Cesc Gelabert, with set and lighting design by
Burke Brown.
