Annie Lennox, Forest Whitaker and More Line Up for Global Citizen Week

Global Citizen today announced Global Citizen Week, a series of events that will culminate with the 2017 Global Citizen Festival in New York City's Central Park.

The public, advocacy-driven events and digital activations will take place across New York City and reflect the non-profit organization's continued effort to engage people in the movement to end extreme poverty.

Global Citizen Week will run from September 17th through the 23rd and convene and activate a global network of individuals, companies, NGOs, artists, and government agencies who are committed to joining this movement and taking action.

The events are timed to coincide with the UN General Assembly, shining a light on those pressing issues to be debated by the world's top diplomats.


Global Citizen Week will feature a wide array of events, speakers, panels, performances, activations and powerful moments, including:

- Breaking the Silence: Beyond the Dream

Participants: The Reverend Al Sharpton, Forest Whitaker, The Howard University Gospel Choir, Sir the Baptist, The String Orchestra of Brooklyn, Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts and more Global Citizen and The Riverside Church will join together for a dynamic afternoon of performances and speakers commemorating the 50th anniversary of DR. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Beyond Vietnam" speech.

- Global Citizen Live!

Annie Lennox will be honored with the prestigious George Harrison Global Citizen Award. Tom Morello and other renowned artists will join world leaders and leading activists for an evening to celebrate the impact achieved by millions of Global Citizens.

Timing: Monday, September 18, at 7 P.M.

- Global Citizen: Movement Makers presented by Citi

Through a series of dynamic panels and fireside discussions, experts from across the arts, political, social good, health, marketing, and behavioral science spheres will share their perspectives with an audience of youth advocates. Movement Makers is presented by Citi, with support from global health partner Johnson & Johnson.

Timing: Tuesday, September 19, at 10 A.M. - 7 P.M.

- Global Citizen is Charity Partner for Forbes Media's Centennial Celebration

Global Citizen is the official charity partner for Forbes Media's centennial celebration, which will bring together and honor the world's greatest business minds.

Timing: Tuesday, September 19 at 6 P.M.

Location: Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers, NY, NY, 10011

- Global Citizen & Cadillac in Concert, The Accelerator Series

Global Citizen and Cadillac will host the final two shows of their concert series. Andra Day and another yet to be announced artist will each celebrate a social entrepreneur who is accelerating change in the world.

Timing: Tuesday, September 19 at 7 P.M. (Andra Day)

Thursday, September 21 at 7 P.M. (Artist TBA)

- Coming Clean for Child Health: An Event at the Tenement Museum

Global Citizen, the Australia Government, and global health partner Johnson & Johnson will co-host a dynamic discussion on urban sanitation and child health.

Timing: Thursday, September 21 at 6:30 P.M.

Location: The Tenement Museum, 103 Orchard St. NY, NY 10002

- Citi Citywide Activation

A co-branded Citi takeover of Citi Bike, retail branches, NBC's TODAY Show, and Citi Field for the Mets home game against the Washington Nationals.

Timing: Ongoing

- 2017 Global Citizen Festival

Headliners Stevie Wonder, Green Day, The Killers, The Lumineers and featuring The Chainsmokers will perform at this free-ticketed event. Special guest performances will be given by Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, Andra Day, Alessia Cara, and more.

Timing: Saturday, September 23 at 3 P.M.

Brands across the city will also be participating in GC Week. Technical athletic apparel company lululemon will host immersive yoga experiences and wellness events at lululemon's HUB seventeen space located underground in its Flatiron store and in lululemon's new store located at 597 Fifth Avenue. TOMS will transform their New York City storefronts into community activism hubs.

Since 2012, Global Citizens have taken more than 11 million actions in the fight against extreme poverty. These actions have resulted in $30 billion in commitments from world leaders that are set to affect the lives of 1 billion people around the world. Global Citizen Week will serve as an opportunity to connect policymakers with the public and expand this community of active and engaged Global Citizens.
