North/South Consonance, Inc. continues its 32nd consecutive season of free-admission concerts on Friday evening May 4, 2012 when mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna and pianist Max Lifchitz join forces for an evening of art songs by composers from México, the Caribbean and Latin America.

The concert will start at 8 PM and will take place at the auditorium of Christ & St. Stephen’s Church (120 West 69th St – between Broadway and Columbus) in New York City. Admission is free.

The program will feature art songs by Carlos Chávez, Alicia Oliva, Manuel M. Ponce and Silvestre Revueltas (from México); Alejandro García-Caturla (from Cuba); Enrique de Marchena (from the Dominican Republic); Luis Pales-Matos (from Puerto Rico) and Ramiro Cortés (from the US).

A graduate of the Mannes School of Music, Ms. Tonna earned top prizes in several prestigious competitions including those sponsored by the Liderkranz Foundation, the Gerda Lissner Foundation, the National Opera Association, the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera and the Chicago LyRic Young Artist Program. During 2007-08, she did research and performed throughout Spain as the recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship.

Ms. Tonna has appeared on recital and opera stages throughout the tri-state area, Puerto Rico’s Casals Festival, and Europe.

Pianist Max Lifchitz has appeared on concert stages throughout Europe, Latin America and the US. He was awarded the first prize in the 1976 Gaudeamus Competition for Performers of Contemporary Music held in Holland.

A graduate of The Juilliard School and Harvard University, Lifchitz has appeared on concert stages throughout Europe, Latin America and the US. He was awarded the first prize in the 1976 Gaudeamus Competition for Performers of Contemporary Music held in Holland.
