Anna Massey, the Tony Award-nominated actress who was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her work in drama, passed away yesterday due to cancer. She was 73 years old.
Massey's career included a myriad of film, television, and stage roles.
She was nominated for a 1957 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play at the age of 19 for her Broadway debut in THE RELUCTANT DEBUTANTE.
Just three years later, in 1960, she appeared in the movie Peeping Tom and continued to work steadily in film for the next forty years, including Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy in 1972.
In 1987, Massey was awarded a BAFTA TV Award for her role on "Hotel du Lac" from Screen Two, in which she appeared for three episodes from 1986 through 1990. She also appeared in the 2002 film version of THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST.
Massey is survived by husband Uri Andres and son David.
