When Theodore Geisel, aka Dr Seuss donated a painting in 1963 as a charitable contribution, he could not possibly have known that in 2010 it would be hanging in a medieval castle in France, and that, to date, it would be his only painting on public display. Now, the philanthropy of one of the world's greatest illustrators will live on through this work of art.

A benefit cocktail reception on Thursday, February 4th from 6-9PM at Animazing Gallery in SoHo will debut a serigraph on canvas of this whimsical masterpiece, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit The SoHo Partnership. The gallery is located on the corner of Broome in SoHo, at 54 Greene Street. RSVP requested via (212)226-7374 or rsvp@animazing.com.

"The Secret Art of Dr Seuss" was discovered after Ted Geisel passed away in 1991. This critically acclaimed body of sophisticated and imaginative work includes paintings and sculptures created during his lifetime that he hid from the public. The collection will remain intact at the residence of his widow and eventually belong to a museum. The Chase Group has worked with the estate of the Artist to publish a series of limited edition fine art prints and sculptures that are available through fine art galleries around the world. The artistic contributions of Geisel in the 20th century have been applauded since 2000, when a museum exhibition toured the globe. During his lifetime, Dr. Seuss created 46 children's books that sold more than 200 million copies, and his last, Oh, the Places You'll Go! (1990), is still on bestseller lists. His books, which he both illustrated and wrote, have been translated into twenty languages as well as Braille. Click here for more information on the artist.
