POP International Galleries, in conjunction with the Revolver Gallery, is pleased to announce its most anticipated exhibition of the year; Andy Warhol: Icons & Symbols. The show will feature over 50 works from the New York art legend, focusing on Andy's characterization of iconic celebrities and various popular symbols. The collection will be located at POP International's SoHo location, and run from today, November 6th through January 1st.
Warhol fans and collectors alike will also have the opportunity to purchase Andy Warhol works for A PENNY! Yes, for a penny, Warhol collectors can own a second piece by the legend himself. If a collector purchases any Warhol work, the galleries will sell an additional piece titled "I Love Your Kiss Forever Forever," a lithograph from the famous "1¢ Life" book for a penny while supplies last.
"This comprehensive print collection is both an art collector's dream and an art history lesson," said Jeff Jaffe, owner and founder of POP International Galleries. "We are thrilled to be working with the Revolver Gallery to be able to bring this wonderful body of art to New York City where it belongs. Not only is it a wide ranging assortment that beautifully defines Warhol's mammoth career, it is also one full of surprises...Who would have thought that 'while supplies last' some discerning collectors will be able to acquire a second Warhol for a penny!"
This marks the fourth stop for this traveling exhibition of Warhol works, which has visited major metropolitan centers in the last year.
The Revolver Gallery boasts one of the largest print inventories of Warhol artwork. POP International is excited to bring Revolver's collection to its new home in the city that inspired most of Andy's career. Works to be featured will include prints of the famous Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, Truman Capote, Mao and the Campbell's Soup Cans. Also featured for sale at the exhibition is Andy Warhol's much coveted personal Polaroid camera, which was recently featured by Digital Trends and PopPhoto.com.
"I'd like to think that the spirit of Andy Warhol exists and that it exists in the city he loved so much, New York City. I'm excited to be teaming up with POP International for an exhibition which is arguably the biggest display of Warhol prints in a gallery setting in the country. With over 50 prolific works on display, I believe that collectors, enthusiasts, and critics will surely find this collection most impressive," said Ron Rivlin, owner, Revolver Gallery.
Andy Warhol was one of the 20th century's most influential artists and cultural critics. As one of the key players in the POP art movement, he developed his own method of screen-printing in the early 1960s, and it wasn't long before he was creating groundbreaking works that brought attention to American pop culture and the lifestyle of Hollywood celebrities, changing how we look at art - and ourselves - forever.
