Andre De Shields, Haven Burton, Lillias White & More Will Lead Broadway-Bound Musical GOTTA DANCE in Chicago

The new musical GOTTA DANCE will take its first steps with an all-star cast.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that the upcoming Broadway-bound musical, premiering in Chicago later this year, will star Tony nominee Andre De Shields, Haven Burton, five-time Emmy Award nominee Georgia Engel, Tony winner Lillias White, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK's Lori Tan Chinn, Stefanie Powers (who will then make her Broadway debut), and Nancy Ticotin. Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, the production, "based on the critically acclaimed 2008 documentary about professional basketball's first ever aged 60-and-older dance team," will begin performances on Dec. 13, 2015 at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre, where it will run through Jan. 10, 2016.

Additional casting will be revealed at a later date.

The creative team also boasts a book by ALADDIN's Chad Beguelin and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE's Bob Martin, with music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and featuring additional music by the late Marvin Hamlisch.

According to press notes, "In 2007, one of the unlikeliest ideas ever to come out of professional sports resulted in the formation of basketball's first-ever dance team entirely made up of people over sixty. Over the coming months, bonds would be formed, generation gaps would be crossed, and, eventually, some pretty hot moves would be busted. The venue? Center court. The genre? Hip-hop. Gotta Dance tells the remarkable true story of these wildly diverse seniors with a common goal, the young coaches who help them achieve it, and a passion for dance that brings them all together. Gotta Dance is the age-defying blast of a musical that proves sometimes the biggest shot is the one you take late in the game.
