Nancy Anderson will headline a free reading of the "musical-noir" The Black Dahlia, presented as part of the York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series on March 7th at 7:30 PM.

Directed by Richard Sabellico with musical direction by Nick DeGregorio, the reading will also star Charlotte Cohn, Jeb Brown, Adam Monley, Andrew Varela, Ray De Mattis, Richard Bell, Paul Hope, Jim Bracchitta, Mary Ann Conk, Diane Findlay, Matt Stokes, James Donegan, Danielle Grabianowski, Cynthia Pierce, Amy Blue and Greg Roderick.

The Black Dahlia features music by Ed Dixon (Fanny Hill), with book and lyrics by Sabellico and Carol Crittenden.  "In the heady, post WW2 days of 'With a dream and the guts…anything's possible…' A beautiful, yet lonely young woman from Massachusetts is brutally, unspeakably violated and murdered - severed in half - and left, in a bold and grotesque display for all to see on an unremarkable street in Los Angles, giving her a fame in death that was elusive in her starry eyed, lost-soul life, earning her an immortal status as the ever and always unsolved case of the Black Dahlia," state York Theatre notes.

Anderson is a two time Drama Desk nominee for her work as the title character in the Off-Broadway productions of Fanny Hill and as all of the women in Jolson & Co. In 2002 she was honored with an Olivier Award nomination and a Helen Hayes Award nomination for her work as Bianca/Lois in Kiss Me Kate, also seen on PBS and available on DVD.  On Broadway, she has appeared as Helen (and later Eileen) in Wonderful Town and Mona in A Class Act.
