The Hampsong Foundation and Opera Noire of New York present An Evening with Darryl Taylor and Friends. Join us for a concert of vocal chamber music with American countertenor, Darryl Taylor, and Maria Thompson Corley, Jennifer Peterson, and Ezra Seltzer. Music performed will include songs by Robert Owens, Leslie Adams, Lori Laitman, Juliana Hall, 18th-Century composer Rosanna Scalfi Marcello, and modern spirituals.

Mr. Taylor's international career is highlighted by performances of art song, opera and oratorio. His repertoire extends from Bach to Britten, and beyond. Among his operatic credits is the premier of the jazzopera by Nathan Davis, Just Above My Head, on the novel by James Baldwin (role of Jimmy), with an international itinerary that includes 22 tours of Spain, singing to enthusiastic, capacity audiences. Recent performance highlights include singing the heroic role of Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Eurydice for De Utrechtse Spelen at Paleis Soestdijk (Holland) before 70,000 spectators; Los Angeles Opera's production of Dido and Aeneus; and the title role in Phillip Glass's Akhnaten for Long Beach Opera.

Taylor is much sought after as a lecturer on African-American Art Song, having given lecture-recitals/master classes at the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Michigan, among many others. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Darryl Taylor holds degrees from the University of Southern California and the University of Michigan.
