Singer/actress/playwright Amy Coleman will inaugurate the new series at Tony's Downtown on May 18th at 10 PM.
Coleman and her band will perform standards, show songs, some new material from her upcoming CD, as well as a good dose of the blues. The evening will be hosted by
Valerie Smaldone, Coleman's partner in their production company Two Sides of a Coin Productions.
Coleman last directed and performed in a benefit production of
The Vagina Monologues (along with Smaldone,
Ally Sheedy,
Kathryn Erbe and a host of other actresses). Coleman and Smaldone's play,
Spit It Out!, was seen at the Midtown International Theater Festival last summer. Coleman is frequently seen around town at venues like The Cutting Room, Birdland, and CODA. She performed in a salute to
Stephen Schwartz (accompanied by Stephen on piano), sang with Peter Frampton in the British Rock Musical and has been seen in the acclaimed musical
The Last Session, both in New York and Los Angeles and in the original production of
Beehive.
Smaldone can be heard everyday on New York's 106.7 Lite-FM. A five-time Billboard Award winner, she has interviewed top recording artists for a nationally syndicated show she hosted and produced. Smaldone is a frequent speaker and emcee for live events and hosts all the special theatrical events at Tony's.
"Tony's di Napoli is known for the warm welcome they extend to the Broadway community, their illustrious Wall of Fame, and their delicious generously sized dishes. On May 18th, Tony's Downstairs will provide a special late night menu for guests. A wonderful addition to the neighborhood's after theater wind-down, admission to this special inaugural performance is $20," state press notes.
Following Amy Coleman's debut at Tony's Downstairs, Tony's di Napoli and Two Sides of a Coin Productions will frequently present post-theater performances.
