American Lyric Theater (ALT) announces the appointment of David Rubeo as new Executive Director, effective May 1, 2017.

"David Rubeo comes to ALT with more than twenty-five years' experience in New York's non-profit sector, primarily in classical music and the performing arts," said ALT's Founder and Producing Artistic Director Lawrence Edelson. "I have admired David's work for many years, and am thrilled to have him join ALT's leadership team. As we look forward to the 10th Anniversary of our Composer Librettist Development Program this fall, David's experience and passion will help position ALT both for growth and exciting new initiatives that will deepen our service to composers, librettists and the opera field."

David Rubeo was most recently Associate Director, Individual Giving at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and, prior to that, Associate Director of MasterVoices. He was Manager of External Affairs and then Associate Director of Gotham Chamber Opera from 2010-2015. David worked for nine years at the Metropolitan Opera both in artistic administration and marketing. He was the tour manager for the Met on tour in Japan in 2001 and 2006, and for the Met Orchestra in Europe in 2002. His work in marketing coincided with Peter Gelb's first seasons, and he managed the advertising campaign that first appeared in subways, street signs and phone booths all over New York City. Before working for the Met, David was Marketing Director for the Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, and prior to that worked for Boosey & Hawkes Music Publishers. David enjoys all forms of culture including opera, theater, jazz and visual arts. He is an avid runner and has completed nine marathons, in New York City, Albany, Philadelphia, Chicago and Washington, D.C.

Great Operas Don't Just Happen. American Lyric Theater (ALT) was founded in 2005 by Lawrence Edelson to build a new body of operatic repertoire by nurturing composers and librettists, providing an incubator for their collaborations, and contributing new works to the national canon. Many opera companies commission and perform new works; but ALT is the only company in the United States that offers extensive, full-time mentorship for emerging operatic writers. While the traditional company model focuses on producing a season, ALT's focus is on serving the needs of composers and librettists, developing new works, and collaborating with larger producing companies to help usher those works into the repertoire. In 2012, ALT was the first company dedicated to artist mentorship rather than operatic production to be recognized by OPERA America as a Professional Company Member - a testament to ALT's service to the field.
