"American Idol" finalist Constantine Maroulis' band, Pray for
the Soul of Betty, will have it's t-shirt worn by an actor in Once
Around the Sun. Ironically, the show features an "American Idol" spoof with a
character named "Waldo".
Once Around the Sun recently put out a call to
area bands to have their group's t-shirt worn by a member of the show's
fictional band, "B-Side". To date, five band t-shirts have been
scheduled to appear next week. The t-shirts will appear as follows:
Wednesday, September 21st - 8PM: Massimo Thursday, September 22nd - 8PM: The Kin Friday, September 23rd - 8PM: The Hypertonics Saturday, September 24th - 8PM: Pray for the Soul of Betty Sunday, September 25th - 7PM: The Carl Chesna Band Once Around the Sun,
which opened at the Zipper Theatre (336 West 37th Street) on August
11th, takes "an honest, intimate, and irreverent look at one man's
efforts to define himself as an artist and find his voice as a man. It
has an original score that includes rock, pop and swing." With music
and lyrics by Steven and Robert Morris and Joe Shane, and a book by
Kellie Overbey, Once Around the Sun is directed by Jace Alexander
(director of off-Bway's Snakebit, Lee Harvey Oswald in the original Assassins). The show stars Maya Days (Aida, Jesus Christ Superstar), John Hickok (Little Women, Parade), Lenat (Floyd Collins), Kevin Mambo, Caren Lyn Manuel (Brooklyn, Rent) and Asa Somers (Dance of the Vampires, The Rocky Horror Show).Tickets are still available for these performances by contacting Telecharge at www.telecharge.com, 212.239.6200 or in person at the Zipper Theatre box office at 336 W 37th St. (between 8th and 9th Avenues). For more information, visit www.oncearoundthesun.com.
