The Broadway at Birdland concert series is thrilled to announce that singer/songwriter Amanda McBroom will return to the historic club on September 10th 2018 with "My Favorite Things- Songs I've Longed to Sing." The selections include words and music from the likes of Annie LaMott, Stephen Sondheim, Fran Landesman, Cole Porter, Jacques Brel, Michele Brourman, and, naturally, McBroom herself. The evening promises to be one to calm the jitters, raise the hackles, and hopefully heal the heart. Showtime is 7:30pm. The historic jazz venue Birdland, which has embraced the diversity of cabaret performing in recent years is located at 315 West 44TH ST. between 8th and 9th Avenues.
Amanda McBroom has been called "...the greatest cabaret performer of her generation, an urban poet who writes like an angel and has a voice to match." McBroom came to the attention of the music public when her song, "The Rose," recorded by Bette Midler, hit #1 on the music charts world-wide in 1979. Her own concert career was launched by her appearances at the Golden Globes (she won!) and the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Since then, in addition to being in demand around the world as a performer, her songs have been recorded by Eminem, Judy Collins, Barbara Cook, Leanne Rhymes, Jack Black and Amy Poehler, The Manhattan Transfer, Anne Murray, Barry Manilow, Nana Mouskouri, Curt Cobain, Donny Osmond and Westlife. Her song "Errol Flynn," inspired by her father, the late actor David Bruce, was recently named to NPR journalist Ann Power's coveted list of Songs We Love.
This is McBroom's first appearance at Birdland since her debut there last year and the CD release of "Voices," on which she re-visited "The Rose" as a duet with country superstar, Vince Gill.
She'll be accompanied by her Musical Director and frequent writing partner, Michele Brourman, with Jered Egan on bass.
