The All Stars Project (ASP), with Congregation Rodeph Shalom, will hold one of a series of performance workshops with Black, Latino and Jewish youth on Thursday, April 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the All Stars national headquarters at 543 West 42nd Street, New York.
The workshop will unite Jewish American and Israeli teenagers from Rodeph Shalom and Black and Latino youth from Youth Onstage!, All Stars' free afterschool development program in the performing arts. Together they will play improvisational games, then break into mixed groups, each creating a 3-minute skit exploring what it means to them to be a New Yorker and what life is like for young Israelis. They will then perform these for the entire group and have a discussion.
Workshops such as this one are part of Together and Giving Back, an ASP initiative that brings together minority youth from across New York City and Northern New Jersey to create new kinds of performances and drive understanding and community spirit.
The initiative was launched in 2008 by Gabrielle L. Kurlander, ASP President & CEO, and Howard Teich, attorney and former president of the American Jewish Congress (Met Region).
