Alison Fraser Plays Five Angels Theater Tonight

Twice Tony-nominated Broadway star Alison Fraser will command the stage and a seven piece swing band singing what she calls "the soundtrack of Tennessee Williams' life." The 90-minute benefit concert features songs Williams chose for his plays - music that is integral to the emotional contours of his indelible dramas.

In this special one night performance the audience will witness Fraser reprise her sensational performance that brought down the house at the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival last year.

In a jewel box of pop songs, this seasoned actor-singer reveals a voice that ranges from mellow ballads to grinding, gritty blues. Accompanied by piano powerhouse Allison Leyton Brown who can rattle the rafters in a dazzling array of musical styles, Fraser takes us on an emotional journey of romantic longing as she interprets hits from the 30s and 40s including Mississippi blues, Latin love songs, and silky jazz classics.

Among popular pleasures in the lineup: "It's Only a Paper Moon" (from A Streetcar Named Desire), "The Party's Over Now," "If I Didn't Care," and a sultry "St. Louis Woman." The collection of songs from Williams' plays was compiled by Festival curator David Kaplan, who directed the concert.

Benefactors at the $1,000 level will enjoy an intimate pre-performance dinner with former Poet Laureate William Jay Smith, college friend of Tennessee Williams who will share St. Louis memories of Williams and his remarkable mother and sister Rose. A $250 Patron ticket includes a Swelegant Afterparty at a Times Square penthouse. A limited number of performance only tickets are available at $50 and $100.

Five Angels Theater is located at 789 Tenth Avenue (between 52nd and 53rd Streets) in New York City. The Five Angels Theater is the permanent home of the 52nd Street Project, the only professional theater company in New York City devoted to kids.
