Tony Award-winning Broadway superstar Alice Ripley took the opportunity to record an impromptu duet performance of the NEXT TO NORMAL showstopper "I'm Alive" in Japanese courtesy of an actor who played Gabe in the Japanese production himself, Gen Parton Shin, and it is now available to hear.
"Hi, my name is Gen Parton Shin. I played Gabe in the Japanese cast version of NEXT TO NORMAL and just bumped into Alice on the street randomly and, I said, 'Hi.' We never met before and she just asked me to sing the Japanese version of 'I'm Alive'."
Ripley can be heard vocalizing with Shin in the recording as well as relaying, "Thank you. You're the best," at the end of the audio.
Of note, Ripley recently released a drum-accented take on the popular Alicia Keys song "New York State Of Mind" as well as an acoustic take on the tune last month, too.
