A historic relic believed to have belonged to Broadway's favorite founding father will soon be for sale.
A gun powder horn engraved with Alexander Hamilton's name and the number 1973 recently surfaced, and appraisers believe it may have been the one he used in his military endeavors, including his duel with Aaron Burr. The piece will go up for auction on January 11, 2016, Hamilton's birthday.
"It could have been by his side above the banks of the Hudson River in Weehawken, New Jersey," writes the Associated Press, "when the man who was the nation's first treasury secretary was mortally wounded in a duel with Aaron Burr in 1804 and died at age 49."
Dr. Warren Richman, the dentist who obtained the horn in 1990, says this horn is more than just an artifact, "It's a symbol of hopes and aspirations, and it's such a positive symbol of his future."
The new musical Hamilton has book, music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also plays the title role. The musical is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. Hamilton is inspired by Ron Chernow's biography "Alexander Hamilton."
