According to The New York Post's Michael Riedel, a starry cast has been assembled for a private reading of Jules Feiffer's 1967 play The White House Murder Case.
Alan Alda (as President Hale), Tony Roberts (as Postmaster General Stiles), John Cullum (as Secretary of Defense Parson), Penny Fuller (as Mrs. Hale) and Michael Stuhlbarg (as Captain Weems) will headline the reading, which will be produced by Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel, and concerns "chaos at the White House while American soldiers are dying in the battlefield." Gordon Edelstein will direct the reading.
The columnist writes that if the reading is a success, the show may be headed to Broadway next year.
The reading will also features Brian Haley, Jeremy Shamos, Christopher Evan Welch, Bill Raymond, and Mark Blum.
The play premiered at Circle in the Square Downtown on February 18th, 1970, and played for 119 performances. Bob Balaban, Paul Benedict, Cynthia Harris and more were among the cast.
Also known for his work as a cartoonist, his other plays include Little Murders, Knock Knock and Grown Ups. He has also penned screenplays (such as Carnal Knowledge) and is known for his children's book The Phantom Tollbooth. With Andrew Lippa, he is also adapting his The Man in the Ceiling into a stage musical for Disney.
