Alan Simmons Art + Design, a fine art gallery and consultancy, hosts noted ceramist, Gregory Miller, in the opening of his second solo exhibition on Saturday, September 6, 2014, 5:00-8:30 PM. Gregory Miller, a Texas based ceramist, reveals an entirely new series of work. The show "Evolution" is both an incorporation and departure from his previous show's exploration of the logical and lyrical. Mr. Miller's new works further explore the relationship between natural world occurrences and man-made systems. The "Evolution" exhibition runs September 6 - October 4, 2014.

Gregory Miller's Artist Statement:

"Evolution" is the title of my newest collection of art items and second showing with Alan Simmons Art + Design. As defined, evolution is the "gradual development of something, especially from a simple to a more complex form." This definition applies aptly to the growth and refinement in my work. The dual pursuit of the logical and the lyrical is represented. The forms have developed a greater sense of movement and fluidity. Surfaces have become more delicate and tactile. Glazes, or the absence thereof, are more judicious. Combined, these elements make for a visual feast!

At my first show, logic was represented by the "petit four" series. The "evolution" in this form I now call "colorfield." Please observe the patterns and rhythms represented. They may surprise you. The coral series represents the lyrical side of my pursuits. Here, I allow my imagination to take the clay to a place of beauty. By using nature to inspire this work, I am able to use colors and textures that allow the viewer to escape to a fantasy world or to remember a past experience.

It is my desire that once you have viewed and experienced my newest work, you will leave feeling inspired and uplifted!

"We are thrilled about the opening exhibition of Greg's new collection," said Lindsey Carneal, director, Alan Simmons Art + Design. "Throughout this past year we have watched his work develop and evolve into what it has become today; a synthesis of his personal and artistic pursuits. He continually desires to explore the relationship between the natural and the man-made, chaos and order, and the known and the unknown."

"Greg's newest bodies of work reflect an even greater intensity and sense of purpose. By testing the very limits of the materials themselves, he has pushed himself to yet another level of artistic sensibility," added Carneal.
