Oscar-nominated actor Danny Aiello (Do the Right Thing) will participate in a benefit on March 25th in New York City for the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival, a four-day festival featuring Williams' work in various genres including film, dance, poetry, photography, music and plays. A life-long fan of Tennessee Williams, Aiello will read "The Timeless World of a Play," the introduction to Williams' play The Rose Tattoo. The benefit will take place at the New York City home of legendary Broadway Producer Gloria Hope Sher, a long-time friend of Mr. Williams.
"The Rose Tattoo is close to Ms. Sher's heart, and she has decided to highlight this play to a select few during her benefit. As Ms. Sher states, 'People need to understand The Rose Tattoo was one of the greatest plays ever written. I am excited to be able to provide an outlet for appreciative people to hear Tennessee's beautiful words,'" state press materials.
In addition to the fundraiser on March 25th, a world premiere reading of Tennessee Williams play "Sun Burst" will be held in co-ordination with the Blue Roses Company in New York City on March 26th. On what would have been Williams' 96th birthday, Provincetown actors Beverly Bentley and Brian Patacca will read this short, unpublished play, with humorous and poetic text on bondage and, perhaps, release. The play will also make its world premiere onstage as part of the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival in September.
Blue Roses Productions will also present "A Tennessee Williams Birthday Celebration" Monday, March 26th, 2007 at 7:30 PM at The Sage Theatre, 711 Seventh Avenue, New York City (between 47th and 48th Streets). In association with the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival the event will feature readings of new short plays adapted from Tennessee Williams last book of poems "Androgyne, Mon Amour."
The Second Annual Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival runs September 27 – 30, 2007 and celebrates the life and work of one of America's foremost literary figures, Tennessee Williams, and his relatively unknown deep connection to Provincetown. The four-day Festival features Williams' work in various genres including film, dance, poetry, photography, music and plays.
