As BroadwayWorld first reported this morning, Oscar and Golden Globe-winning actress Marlee Matlin will make her Broadway debut this fall in the upcoming revival of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's beloved musical Spring Awakening as the 'Adult Woman'. In honor of the big news, BWW brings you a look back at some of the highlights from Matlin's career!

"It's been 30 years since I had the opportunity to be part of the groundbreaking Children of a Lesser God and I couldn't be more proud and honored to have been asked to join Deaf West Theatre's innovative revival of Spring Awakening on Broadway," she said in a statement today.

Arguably best known for her star-making role in CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD, which landed her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1987, Matlin also earned Emmy nominations for her work on SEINFELD, PICKET FENCES, THE PRACTICE and LAW AND ORDER: SVU. The author and activist has also made appearances on THE WEST WING, ER, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, NIP/TUCK, GLEE, SWITCHED AT BIRTH and DANCING WITH THE STARS, while turning heads for three seasons on Showtime's hit drama THE L WORD.

The Tony-winning musical SPRING AWAKENING, directed by Michael Arden, will play a a strictly limited engagement at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre this fall. Previews will kick off Sept. 8 ahead of an official opening on Sept. 27. With no extension possible, SPRING AWAKENING will give its final perforamnce on Jan. 9, 2016.

Deaf West's much-lauded adaptation features simultaneous performances in American Sign and spoken and sung in English. The production recently wrapped a run at L.A.'s Wallis Annenberg Center, following a sold-out run at the Rosenthal Theatre.

Per press notes, "based on Frank Wedekind's controversial 1891 expressionist play of the same name and featuring an electrifying pop/rock score, Spring Awakening follows the lives of a group of adolescents as they navigate their journey from adolescence to adulthood in a fusion of morality, sexuality and rock & roll. An extraordinary creative team including Michael Arden and Spencer Liff has reinvented the groundbreaking musical about lost innocence and the struggles of youth in true Deaf West style."

Tickets to SPRING AWAKENING on Broadway are now on sale at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 877-250-2929. The Brooks Atkinson Theatre box office will open on Monday, August 17.
