About the film: Agnieszka Kurant, Cutaways, 201321 min, HD film. Commissioned by SculptureCenter and Stroom den Haag Courtesy the artist and Galeria Fortes Vilaça and Tanya Bonakdar Gallery.

Cutaways - Agnieszka Kurant's collaboration with the American film editor Walter Murch (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now) - is a portrait of the invisible universe of phantom characters that have been completely deleted from the final cut of feature films after decisions regarding film duration or structure were made by editors, directors and producers, leaving no apparent trace in the stories yet strangely belonging to them-a no man's land or junkyard of surplus characters and deleted narratives. Addressing editing as basic common intellectual and political tool present everywhere in our lives, Cutaways narrates the encounter of three cut-out characters from different major American films, played by their originally assigned actors who continued to impersonate their characters: Charlotte Rampling as the hitchhiker cut out from Richard C. Sarafian's Vanishing Point (1971), Abe Vigoda as the lawyer and best friend of protagonist Harry Caul in Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation (1974) and Dick Miller as Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1994) deleted junkyard owner Monster Joe.
