Denim guru Adriano Goldschmied has teamed with J. Crew to create the GoldSign x J. Crew capsule collection availalbe in J.Crew stores on January 28th and online starting February 27th. The capsule collection contains two jean styles and a skirt and retail from $198 to $288. The pieces will be available in five washes as well as a two wool-denim washes, and represent a new direction for both the eight-year-old Los Angeles premium denim line and the retailer reports WWD.
"I've never done a collaboration with an American company, and certainly not one with a gigantic store business," said Goldschmied, who sold a style from the regular GoldSign collection to the retailer last season after a J. Crew buyer spotted them at the ENK trade show. "I've known Mickey [Drexler] a long time and we have a lot of respect for each other. For both of us, it was about bringing something to market that was both new and right."
Goldschmied veered from the skinny jean and created three pieces inspired by Norma Jean Baker and the all-American pin-up girl. "I wanted to go back to what beauty was at that time, curvy and classic, which is also very fitting for what J. Crew represents." Designs are being finalized for fall, and Goldschmied said that both companies were open to continuing the collaboration. "There are no obligations in any way for either of us, but my feeling is it will be a long-term relationship," he said.
