Various media outlets reported yesterday that an album featuring Adam Lambert's "early work" is set for a 2009 Summer release. Songs from the American Idol runner-up will be released by Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records beginning with the single 'Want'. It appears the CD is not without controversy.

Lambert does not consider this upcoming album an example of his current musical vision and isn't jumping up and down with joy regarding its release. Gossip master Perez Hilton posted comments from Adam Lambert about the record:

"Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio. The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on." Sources have also revealed that the first single 'Want' is identical to an earlier tune titled 'December' by singer/songwriter Dublyn Jones. Jones also recorded at the Wilshire Records studios during Lambert's time there, with Adam Lambert lending his vocals to Jones' project.

The material was recorded back in 2007 and 2008, before Lambert auditioned for Season 8 of American Idol. The then unknown and aspiring Lambert recorded the material with producer Mark Endert, who worked mixing recordings for The Fray, Madonna, Maroon 5 and Rihanna. The release will be titled "On with the Show."

Adam Lambert signed a record deal with 19 Entertainment and RCA Recordings earlier this month. Lambert is scheduled to record that album while on the road with the show's finalists for the "Idols Live Tour," which starts July 5. The untitled album is expected for release in the fall.

Lambert was a true stand out on AMERICAN IDOL's 8th season - coming in second place in the finals behind winner Kris Allen.

The young Los Angeles based singer made every song his own with a soaring vocal style that thrilled week after week. Adam is also is no stranger to the theatrical stage having gotten his early start behind the footlights. Adam Lambert appeared in WICKED twice, once with the touring company in March 2005 for a six month contract, and then opening in the sitdown Los Angeles production in February 2007 and remaining with the show until October 2008. For both engagements in "Wicked", he was a member of The Ensemble and understudied the role of Fieryo, the show's love interest. "

In addition to performing in WICKED, Adam Lambert also had a role in The Ten Commandments and appeared in The Zodiac Show.
