New Science, New Solutions: Changing the Future for At-Risk Youth, hosted actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith, will join leading thinkers to explore new approaches to one of society's most intractable problems.

Join us for a lively conversation about how scientific research, and other programs and policies are paving the way for new solutions that address poverty, injustice, and inequality tonight, December 9, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the LeFrak Theater at the American Museum of Natural History. Admission is $15 ($13.50 seniors, students); $12 Members.

This program is presented in collaboration with the New York University Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue.

WHO'S WHO:

Anna Deavere Smith Actress, playwright, teacher, and MacArthur Fellow. She has been received the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize, as well as two Tony nominations and two Obie awards. She also sits on the board of trustees for the American Museum of Natural History.

Ana M. Bermúdez NYC Department of Probation's (DOP's) first Latina and second woman to be appointed Commissioner. As Commissioner, she leads the department in its mission to enhance public safety through appropriate and individualized intervention in the lives of DOP clients to enable them to permanently exit the justice system.

Frances Champagne Associate Professor of Psychology at Columbia University. Her research explores the implications of the interplay between genes and the environment in shaping development and the role of epigenetic mechanisms in linking experiences with developmental outcomes.

Fagan Harris Co-founder and CEO of Baltimore Corps, an organization dedicated to building a stronger Baltimore by mobilizing a new generation of leaders focused on urban renewal.

Bruce S. McEwen Former President of the Society for Neuroscience. As a neuroscientist and neuroendocrinologist, he studies the environmentally-regulated, variable gene expression in relation to brain sexual differentiation and the actions of sex and stress hormones in adults.

Dorothy Roberts Professor of Law & Sociology and the University of Pennsylvania. She is also the Director of the Penn Program on Race, Science & Society.
