Actor's Equity Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Woodlawn Cemetery Walking Tour Today

Today, September 29 Actors' Equity Association and Woodlawn Cemetery will partner to celebrate the Association's 100th anniversary Woodlawn historian Susan Olsen will lead a special tour, Revolt of the Actors!, that visits the memorials of the theatre greats who rest at Woodlawn.

The tour will visit those who established AEA in 1913, the leaders of the 1919 "Revolt of the Actors" strike, and those who have worked tirelessly to support actors, writers and those involved in New York's theatre community.

Highlights include the memorials for AEA founders comedians Digby Bell and Jefferson De Angleis, agent Elizabeth Marbury, actors Clarence Derwent and James Hackett, playwright Clyde Fitch, and Antoinette Perry-for whom the Tonys are famously named. The tour will also stop at George M. Cohan's grave. Cohan was a theatre owner and producer, who fought against the striking actors in 1919.

The tour will leave from the Jerome Avenue entrance at 2:00pm Tickets are $15 for adults; discounts provided for Conservancy Members, Equity members, seniors, and students.
