Actors and singer-actors are sought for the outrageous International CringeFest '10 to be presented in the Grand Theatre at the Producers' Club, 358 W. 44th St., July 19-August 8. All types, ages 18 to way up, non-singers to legit singers, cross-dressers welcome! The festival offers comedic works that are irreverent, politically incorrect, political satire, and just plain naughty. The short plays are arranged in theme evenings: Sex Encounters of a Disturbed Mind, director Bob Bartley; Psycho Bitch Party, director Kenny Howard; Politics Makes Deranged Bedfellows, director Kareem Kahmy; Sex, Thugs & Rockin' Roles, director Tom Amici; Is That a Corncob in Your Pocket?, director TBA; and No Holes Barred, director Kenny Wade Marshall. No pay, but a whole lotta fun and tremendous exposure. It has been covered by, among others, the New York Times, New York Magazine, TimeOutNY, Post, Variety, NBC News, WNBC & WCBS radio, and is attended by producers, casting directors, and agents. NY Artists Unlimited, founded in 1982, is a multicultural, nonprofit company that takes professional theatre to under-served audiences. The International CringeFest is their creation and it has come to support the company's dedicated outreach work. Last summer's festival at the Producers' Club presented Honorary Golden Pineapples to Taylor Mead, Mink Stole, Joe Franklin, Ginny Louloudes, and Michael Musto. In 2009, it was legendary actress Marilyn Sokol, cabaret star Sidney Myer, and Warhol muse Ultra Violet. Director Tom O'Horgan (Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar) was honored in 2007. This year's honorees are still being kept hush-hush. At the closing party, the Fruit Cup Awards are presented: Golden Pineapple, Silver Tomato, and Bronze Banana, as well as Jack Lemons for best actor and actress.
