Activist's New Play IN, MANHATTAN Set for Thespis Theater Festival

Rick Charles Mueller, gay activist, playwright, novelist, actor, and director has announced the world premiere of his new play, "In, Manhattan," at the Thespis Theater Festival this coming August 4th, 6th, and 7th.

As with many of his works, Mr. Mueller's play deals with social issues and how these issues affect real people. His earlier work has dealt with homophobia, racism, and drug abuse.

"In, Manhattan" is a drama about what happens to a couple whose dreams are shattered and who are forced into a life of drugs and prostitution. Many come here from all of the country, the world with amazing dreams and often the worst and/or the best can happen! The story centers on Michael Smith (played by Trey Tetreault) and Baby (played by Katharine Antonia Nedder) and their struggles to make in the big city. It then fast forwards fifteen years later to the story of their son, Zach (also played by Tetreault) who is living with Tourette's Syndrome with his successful stepfather, Joseph Woodruff, (played by Mueller) when the sudden visit of his birth mother, who he never met, throws everyone's life into a tail spin.

A topical social tale with a political spin, it's about how we can hit new lows and attain great heights and how the challenges we face affects how we do both.

Rick's new play, "In, Manhattan" plays at the Thespis Theatre Festival's Hudson Guild Theatre (441 West 26th Street, New York City) Thursday, August 4th at 9:00PM, Saturday, August 6th at 1:00PM, and Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 6:00PM.
