According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren are set to star in the New Line Cinema thriller THE GOOD LIAR, directed by Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Dreamgirls). This will mark McKellen's fourth collaboration with Condon after Gods and Monsters, Mr. Holmes and Beauty and the Beast.
THE GOOD LIAR, based on the novel by Nicholas Searle, follows a career con artist named Roy Courtnay (McKellen) who attempts one last big score after meeting a wealthy widow named Betty McLeish (Mirren) online. However, once Betty opens her heart to Roy he finds himself caring about her in a way that threatens his planned swindle.
Condon will direct from a screenplay by Jeffrey Hatcher, with whom he worked on adapting Mr. Holmes. Greg Yolen will also produce, with Jack Morrissey along with Bron Creative's Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth executive producing.
Helen Mirren won the 2015 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in THE AUDIENCE. The actress has won international recognition for her work on stage, screen and television. For her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen in 2006, she received an Academy Award®, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award®, and BAFTA Award for Best Actress. She was also named Best Actress by virtually every critics' organization from Los Angeles to London. In 2014 she was honored with the BAFTA Fellowship for her outstanding career in film. On television she played the title role in "Elizabeth I" for which she won Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Awards.
Ian McKellen is the recipient of six Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BIF Award, two Saturn Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, and two Critics' Choice Awards. He has also received two Oscar nominations, four BAFTA nominations and five Emmy Award nominations. He most recently appeared on Broadway in the revivals of Waiting for Godot and No Man's Land. His other Broadway credits include Dance of Death, Ian McKellen: A Knight Out at the Lyceum, Wild Honey, Ian McKellen: Acting Shakespeare, Amadeus, and The Promise. In the West End, McKellen has starred in A Scent of Flowers, Richard II, Edward II, Macbeth, Othello, King Lear, The Seagull, The Tempest and many more productions.
