Absurd Person Singular Opens at Biltmore Theatre Tonight, Oct. 18

The Broadway revival of Alan Ayckbourn's Absurd Person Singular will open tonight at the Biltmore Theatre (261 W. 47th St).

A Manhattan Theatre Club production,
Absurd Person Singular stars Mireille Enos (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) as Eva, Clea Lewis (Fuddy Meers) as Jane, Alan Ruck (The Producers) as Sidney, Deborah Rush (Noises Off) as Marion, Sam Robards (The Man Who Had All the Luck) as Geoffrey and Paxton Whitehead (My Fair Lady, Lettice and Lovage) as Ronald.

Directed by John Tillinger (Judgement at Nuremberg, Night Must Fall), the show centers on "
three couples, three kitchens, three successive Christmas Eves: welcome to the world of Alan Ayckbourn's comedy about social class and splendid cocktails," state the show's production notes. The show marks the sixth Ayckbourn play Manhattan Theatre Club has produced; the almost 20-year relationship began with the 1988 production of Woman in Mind. Subsequent productions include: Absent Friends (1991), A Small Family Business (1992), Comic Potential (2000) and the interwoven plays House and Garden (2002). Director Tillinger previously helmed MTC's productions of House and Garden and Comic Potential.

Absurd Person Singular's creative team comprises includes John Lee Beatty (sets), Jane Greenwood (costumes), Brian MacDevitt (lighting), and Bruce Ellman (sound).

The original Broadway production of the show opened on October 8th, 1974 and starred Larry Blyden, Sandy Dennis, Richard Kiley, Geraldine Page, Tony Roberts and Carole Shelley; Blyden, Page and Shelley received Tony Award nominations.  The show ran for 591 performances.
