The Tony Award-winning musical AVENUE Q will appear on LIVE WITH REGIS & KELLY on the show's Labor Day telecast Monday, Sept. 5, performing a new song, "Only in Vegas," that celebrates the popular musical's opening on Thursday, Sept. 8 at the WYNN LAS VEGAS Resort.
Members of the Las Vegas company of AVENUE Q -- Tony nominee John Tartaglia and Rick Lyon, both stars of the original Broadway cast -- perform "Only in Vegas" along with some of the hit musical's beloved puppet characters Rod, Lucy, Trekkie Monster AND a puppet likeness of Las Vegas impressario Steve Wynn, who built a $40 million theatre especially for AVENUE Q at his recently-opened $2.4 billion resort of The Strip.
In addition to opening a second production in Las Vegas, AVENUE Q -- a musical about trying to make it in New York with big dreams and a tiny bank account -- recently began its third year on Broadway at the Golden Theatre.
The much-anticipated Las Vegas production of AVENUE Q - winner of three 2004 Tony Awards, including Best Musical - began previews August 27 prior to its official Las Vegas opening night September 8, 2005 at the dazzling new WYNN LAS VEGAS Resort (Broadway Theatre, 3131 Las Vegas Blvd.) In addition to its Tony Award for Best Musical, AVENUE Q won Tony Awards for Best Original Score of a Musical and Best Book of a Musical.
AVENUE Q is the creation of a host of talented young theatre artists, 30-somethings all: AVENUE Q has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx; and directed by Jason Moore. AVENUE Q has puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon; musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, and choreography by Ken Roberson. AVENUE Q's scenic design is by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.
AVENUE Q in Las Vegas is presented by Wynn Las Vegas, Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, Vineyard Theatre and The New Group.
WYNN LAS VEGAS Resort is impresario Steve Wynn's new $2.5 billion enterprise. Mr. Wynn--an avowed fan of AVENUE Q, which he has seen numerous times on Broadway --has built a 1200-seat theatre especially for AVENUE Q, thus creating the more intimate theatrical setting that befits AVENUE Q.
As such, for the foreseeable future, there will be two destinations to see AVENUE Q -- on Broadway at the Golden Theatre (where AVENUE Q begins its 3rd year on July 31, 2005) and at WYNN LAS VEGAS.Original Broadway cast members John Tartaglia and Rick Lyon will be joined in the Las Vegas company of AVENUE Q by Angela Ai, David Benoit, Steven Booth, Minglie Chen, Tonia Dixon, Rita Dolphin, Natalie Gray, Phyre Hawkins, Nicholas Kohn, Michelle Lane, Kevin Noonchester, Brynn O'Malley, Cole Porter, Jonathan Root, Kelli Sawyer, Sharon Wheatley and Haneefah Wood.
At WYNN LAS VEGAS, AVENUE Q will perform Tuesdays through Saturdays at 6:30 and 10 p.m. Tickets are $75.90 and $86.90, and can be reserved online or by calling Ticketmaster.
